63-year-old victim of violent robbery is latest in series of assaults against elderly Sikhs in Queens

  • The incident, which is currently not considered a hate crime, is under investigation by the New York Police Department. The suspect has yet to be arrested.
  • The attack occurred in the same neighborhood where three Sikh men were also targeted last month.

  • No one was shot during the incident, and the victim declined medical treatment.
  • Police are still looking for the suspects, who wore hooded sweatshirts and surgical masks.

Adam Lloyd Carlson, 45, robbed Golden Dragon restaurant at 4704 E. Sunrise Dr. near Swan Road for the first time on Feb. 17 at around 7:46 p.m, according to the authorities.

  • Jin Yut Lew, a 61-year-old Chinese father, was carjacked, robbed, brutally beaten and “left for dead” near Chinatown in Chicago.
  • He was found “incoherent and bleeding from the head” by street cleaners on a sidewalk near the Dan Ryan Expressway on the morning of April 7.
  • Lew suffered severe brain trauma and is currently in a coma after undergoing brain surgeries.
  • An investigation into the assault and carjacking is ongoing. No arrests have been made, as of this writing.
  • Lew’s sons have set up a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $50,000 to help fund his medical bills and recovery.

The incident reportedly occurred beside Anchovy Bar on O’Farrell Street between Fillmore and Steiner Streets on Friday afternoon, SFist reported, citing a Twitter report by ABC7’s Dion Lim and a video posted by Asian Crime Report’s Twitter account. A person wearing an apron reportedly tried to help the victim but was stopped by one of the armed robbers.

What they did: Floarea Ghiocel, 47, and her son Marius Ghiocel, 32, are allegedly part of an organized group of Romanian travelers involved in the thefts. After approaching their victim and taking their jewelry, they would replace the jewelry with seemingly identical imitation pieces, FOX 11 reported.

San Jose robbery crew suspects charged with hate crimes for targeting over 100 Asian American women

Six men were arrested and charged with hate crimes for their alleged involvement in more than 70 cases of violent robberies, burglaries and thefts that have targeted over 100 Asian American women in the San Francisco Bay Area since last year, the San Jose Police Department announced on Wednesday.

What they did: The crime spree occurred between October 2020 and September 2021, police said. The suspects, all aged between 20 and 30, are believed to be part of a “prolific robbery crew” that primarily targeted Asian females, many of whom were injured during the attacks.

The burglary: On Nov. 16, thieves broke into Long Boat Jewelry on Grant Avenue at around 4:20 a.m. and stole $250,000 worth of merchandise in just three minutes, reported SF Chronicle.
