‘Asian son duties fulfilled’: Simu Liu buys his parents a brand new ‘Tessie’

  • “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” star Simu Liu revealed on Saturday that he bought his parents a brand new Tesla.
  • “My parents continue to surprise me everyday with their capacity for growth and empathy,” the Chinese Canadian actor wrote on Instagram. “This is but a tiny token of gratitude. Your boy might be 33 and a Marvel superhero, but he needs his mama to set him straight every once in a while. Thanks ma. I know what I have to do.”
  • The “Kim’s Convenience” star also shared the picture in an Instagram Story post, where he jokingly wrote, “Asian son duties fulfilled.”

  • According to Errol, Elon has to “find a woman to give up what she's doing, and that's not easy.” 
  • When asked to comment on recent pictures of Elon that have emerged online, Errol said that his son has been “eating badly” and has been advised to take weight loss supplements.
  • Errol also revealed that instead of owning a Tesla, he drives a Bentley, a Rolls Royce and a Mercedes-Benz.

  • Prices of the vehicles will range from 55 million won (approximately $41,949.51) to 65 million won (approximately $49,358.82) in the South Korean market, depending on desired features.
  • The IONIQ 7 SUV model is set to be introduced in 2024.

  • Tesla exclusively sells fully electric cars while BYD’s car sales include hybrid cars with gasoline engines.
  • Tesla has blamed its sales performance on supply chain issues due to COVID-19, while BYD is predicted to have remained largely unaffected because it produces many of its parts in-house.
  • Billionaire Warren Buffet’s company, Berkshire Hathaway, was an early investor in BYD, pouring $232 million into the company in 2008; the Chinese automaker is now worth an impressive $7.7 billion.

  • When asked to comment, Musk answered that there was “a lot more to this story.” He added, “If I were inclined to engage in sexual harrassment, this is unlikely to be the first time in my entire 30-year career that it comes to light.” 
  • Users pointed out that the timing of the sexual misconduct allegations warranted suspicion, considering that Musk had pledged to vote Republican moving forward the day before.

Tesla released their 2020 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Impact Report for U.S. operations last week showing that Asian Americans make up more than 20% of their workforce and management, far more than any other underrepresented community.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Asian Americans made up only 6% of the U.S. workforce in 2018. Past data has also shown that in the U.S., Asian Americans are the least likely to be promoted to management positions.
