Riot Games fines TSM $75,000, puts CEO Andy Dinh on 2-year probation for bullying

  • Andy Dinh, the 30-year-old CEO and co-founder of esports organization Team SoloMid (TSM), has been placed on a two-year probation and fined $75,000 by video game developer Riot Games for bullying.
  • Following an investigation by the North America League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), the esports league concluded that Dinh violated two LCS rules relating to profanity, hate speech and harassment.
  • Dinh is also required to complete sensitivity training and executive coaching from an LCS approved provider.
  • An anonymous hotline will be provided to the staff and players of TSM to report any instances of abusive conduct by Dinh during his probation.

  • A sixth-grade student identified only as Emma is an Asian immigrant enrolled at George J. Ryan Junior High School in Queens, New York.
  • Emma has reportedly been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after being harassed and assaulted by four of her male peers over a week ago.
  • “Despite several witnesses’ accounts, the incident was neglected and not fairly treated by the school till today,” City Council 2021 candidate Yi Chen wrote on Sunday. “It is also reported that there have been two or three other bullying [incidents] in the school.”

A sixth-grade Asian student has reportedly been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after being assaulted by four male schoolmates in New York City a little more than a week ago.

The student, identified only as Emma, is an immigrant currently enrolled at George J. Ryan Junior High School (J.H.S. 216) in Fresh Meadows, Queens. She has limited English proficiency.

  • A viral video in Hong Kong shows a 12-year-old girl kneeling as a group of teenagers, aged 12 to 19, take turns slapping her across the face on the rooftop of a five-story building on Luen Yan Street in Tsuen Wan on Saturday.
  • She does not attempt to avoid any of the 21 slaps she endures in the viral video. She was taken to a hospital to treat the injuries she sustained during the attack.
  • The Tsuen Wan criminal investigation unit began searching for five Chinese girls in relation to the attack after the victim’s father reported the incident to the police on Sunday.
  • Five teens have since been arrested in connection to the incident.

A viral video of a 12-year-old girl kneeling and being repeatedly slapped in the face incited a citywide police search for her five assailants in Hong Kong.

The 12-year-old victim kneeled as a group of teenagers, aged 12 to 19, took turns slapping her across the face on the rooftop of a five-story building on Luen Yan Street in Tsuen Wan shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Hybe dismisses barrage of bullying accusations against Le Sserafim member Kim Garam as ‘one-sided’

  • Hybe released a joint statement with Source Music to address the recent allegations against Le Sserafim member Kim Garam, 16, and her hiatus amid the controversy.
  • Kim was accused of bullying a classmate while they were both in middle school.
  • The new detailed statement declares that Kim herself was a victim of “ridiculous” and “malicious” rumors, including that “She hit a friend’s head with a flowerpot” and “She cracked a classmate’s head with a brick.”
  • Kim will take a break from the group so that she can “focus on healing her wounded heart.”
  • Source Music announced that it will cancel the all-girl group’s activities scheduled for Friday, including the group’s appearance on KBS 2TV’s “Music Bank.”

South Korean entertainment company Hybe has officially released a new detailed statement regarding the school violence allegations against Le Sserafim member Kim Garam and her hiatus amid the controversy.

Prior to Le Sserafim’s debut, anonymous online allegations were made against Kim in April claiming she was part of a bullying group in school that engaged in illegal activities such as smoking and extortion of her classmates. More accusations soon followed not too long after claiming Kim and her friends threatened to harm the accuser. More allegations from others added that there are photos of Kim making lewd hand gestures and posing in front of a blackboard with pornographic content drawn on it. Other photos show a blackboard saying “Le Sserafim will beat IVE, IVE down, Le Sserafim up.”

Sikh high school student suspended along with bullies who allegedly attacked him, knocked his turban off

  • Sikh students at Whiteland Community High School in Indiana were allegedly the targets of “severe bias-motivated harassment and physical assault.”
  • In one incident, a group of students allegedly knocked a Sikh student’s turban from his head before physically attacking and verbally assaulting him with racist remarks.
  • Sikh Coalition, a national Sikh American advocacy group that defends civil rights, offered the student legal support and asked the school officials for justice through a careful investigation into the incident.
  • According to the school district, local law enforcement and school administrators are currently investigating the incident, as of Feb. 25.

A national Sikh Coalition is calling for an investigation after Sikh students at Whiteland Community High School in Indiana allegedly became the victims of “severe bias-motivated harassment and physical assault.”

The targeted students were in the school’s cafeteria when another group of students allegedly knocked a classmate’s turban from his head while filming. Another student was allegedly physically assaulted and verbally attacked with racist remarks when he tried to prevent the group from recording. 

Riot Games investigating founder of one of the world’s most valuable esports teams for bullying, abuse

  • Riot Games and esports organization Team SoloMid have launched an independent investigation after employees and professional players accused the organization’s CEO and owner, Andy Dinh, of verbal abuse and bullying.
  • Dinh was publicly called out by “League of Legends” player Yiliang “Peter” Peng, also known as Doublelift, during a Twitch livestream in November 2021. Peng’s act reportedly kicked off the investigation.
  • Speaking about the issue, Dinh explained that he has “zero tolerance for underperformance.” He added, “I set an extremely high bar, and when I feel that someone is not delivering, I directly and bluntly share that feedback.”

Riot Games has officially launched an independent investigation into Team SoloMid’s (TSM) CEO and owner, Andy Dinh, over alleged verbal abuse and bullying.

In an email to Wired, Riot Games – the video game developer, which operates the “League of Legends” Championship Series where TSM competes – stated that it was aware of the allegations against Dinh. Riot Games also said it hired the law firm of O’Melveny & Myers LLP to “conduct an independent investigation into claims of misconduct made against the leader of this team, in accordance with standard league process.”

A Chinese man who claimed to be a victim of school bullying before being found dead by local fishermen has sparked calls for an end to an ongoing social epidemic.

What happened: Zhou Peng, 26, was found dead in the waters near Zhoushan in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province on Dec. 1, according to China News. On Nov. 28, he posted an apparent suicide note on Weibo, in which he talked about being bullied because he was “effeminate.”

New Sesame Street Song ‘Proud of Your Eyes’ Addresses Anti-Asian Bullying

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind “Sesame Street,” released a video on June 23 titled “Proud of Your Eyes” to address anti-Asian bullying as part of an initiative to help children and their families have open conversations about race.

The video: Featuring one of “Sesame Street’s” Muppet friends, the video focuses on an experience dealt with by many Asian Americans as Analyn, a Filipino American girl, is ridiculed for her eyes.
