AI creates images depicting Pikachu in 1920s Tokyo

  • An image-generating AI program created black and white photographs of what Pikachu might look like if it existed in Tokyo during the 1920s.
  • The black and white photos were produced by image-generating apps Stable Diffusion and Dream Studio.
  • The Pokémon franchise was created in 1996 by Satoshi Tajiri.

Pikachu, the adorable face of the Pokémon franchise, traveled back in time to 1920s Japan with the help of an image-generating AI program.

Using the image-generating AI apps Stable Diffusion and Dream Studios, Twitter user @_ai_drawing managed to produce realistic black and white photos which imagined Pikachu in Tokyo during the Taishō period.

  • Each Happy Meal purchased until Sept. 6 comes with a four-card booster pack, a Pokémon-themed coin, spinner and an instruction sheet on how to play a “Match Battle,” which aims to teach kids more about the trading card game.
  • There are 15 cards to collect in total, six of which are holographic rares.
  • To combat scalpers, McDonald’s has limited the number of toys that can be received to one additional toy per Happy Meal purchase.

McDonald’s and the Pokémon Trading Card Game are tag teaming once more for a Happy Meal promotion that includes new trading cards to collect. 

Starting on Tuesday and ending on Sept. 6, Pokémon fans can go to McDonald’s and pick up a Happy Meal that comes with a four-card booster pack, a Pokémon-themed coin, spinner and an instruction sheet on how to play a “Match Battle,” which aims to teach kids more about the trading card game.

An 11-year-old boy from China burst into tears after receiving a textbook-themed cake on his birthday.

The boy’s mother, Ms. Zhang from Jiangsu Province, China, had reportedly promised her son a Pikachu birthday cake; however, she decided to change its design at the last minute as a surprise on Jan. 8.

Pikachu, which looks something like a cross between a mouse and a rabbit, has always been put in the “mouse” category in the Pokédex, the digital encyclopedia for Pokémon. However, Pikachu’s creator has confirmed that it’s neither a mouse nor a rabbit. So which is it?

Legendary artist Atsuko Nishida, who designed Pikachu and a number of creatures in the “Pokémon” franchise for game developer Game Freak, previously revealed that she based Pikachu’s original design concept on a squirrel, according to SVG.

The Pokémon series takes a whole new – and very dark – path in this new parody trailer from Adi Shankar, the executive producer of Netflix’s “Castlevania,” titled “The End of Pokémon.”

“The End of Pokémon,” directed by Luis Pelayo Junquera and Enol Junquera, was animated by Angry Metal Studios, the studio that is also behind Shankar’s other “bootleg universe” entries, specifically for “The Punisher” and “Dredd,” according to Polygon. It was released by animation network Octopie.
