Former Big Bang member Seungri sentenced to three years in jail

Former K-pop idol and Big Bang member Seungri received a three-year jail sentence after being charged in 2019 for procuring prostitutes for businessmen, but his fans are still fighting for him.

Conviction: Seungri, 30, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, was convicted by the General Military Court of the Ground Operations Command in Yongin on the charges of mediating prostitution and illegal gambling, according to Nate via All Kpop.

K-Pop band Big Bang, known as the “Kings of K-pop,” will be on official hiatus as YG Entertainment recently confirmed that all of its members are either preparing for the mandatory military service or have already begun theirs.

The first member of Big Bang to enlist was T.O.P, real name Choi Seung-hyun. He began his mandatory military service last year in February; unfortunately, he was discharged after being found guilty of using marijuana. His service then resumed in January 2018, according to Yonhap News.

T.O.P.’s two year probation sentence for smoking marijuana has been suspended, according to the Chosun IlboBig Bang’s T.O.P., birth name Choi Seung-Hyun, was originally given a two year probation, that, if broken, would result in 10 months in prison for smoking liquid marijuana.

“The defendant has admitted his guilt and the court acknowledges all charges as guilty,” Judge Kim Ji-chul of the Seoul Central District Court said. “The defendant, as someone who’s been loved by many fans here and abroad, has disappointed his family and fans. Yet the court has allowed for the fact that he has pleaded guilty, regrets having committed the wrongdoing and shows willingness not to commit such a misdeed again.”
