Asian woman sought in ‘disturbing’ Canada hit-and-run that sent 11-year-old boy to hospital

  • Police in the Canadian city of Richmond are searching for an Asian driver who allegedly struck an 11-year-old boy and left him to fend for himself on Wednesday.
  • The incident reportedly occurred in the area of Number 1 Road and Tucker Avenue just before 9 a.m.
  • The child was pushing his bicycle in a pedestrian crosswalk when a gray minivan hit him, according to Cpl. Dennis Hwang.
  • The boy was immediately transported to a hospital. He suffered minor injuries and was eventually released.
  • Police described the suspect as an Asian woman in her 50’s with a bob-style haircut. Her minivan is also believed to have incurred light damage.

Asian man suspected of violent attacks on Chinese residents, students in NJ neighborhood

An Asian man armed with a variety of weapons is believed to be responsible for a series of violent attacks on Chinese residents and international students in New Jersey’s Journal Square neighborhood.

The incidents, which occurred near the PATH subway station, appear to date back as early as February. The assailant allegedly would attack from behind with a hammer, a rock or a brick before threatening his victim with a knife.

  • Marshall Curtis Jones, 27, was fatally shot by police officers in Kent, Washington, as he was being taken into custody in relation to the disappearance and presumed murder of Filipino American Alexis Gabe.
  • Law enforcement officials opened fire at Jones, who was pronounced dead after he reportedly charged at them with a knife.
  • Gabe, 24, was last seen visiting Jones’ home on Jan. 26 and is now presumed to be the victim of a homicide.
  • According to Oakley police, there was ample “digital and forensic” evidence linking Jones to Gabe’s disappearance.
  • The Seattle Police Department has been tasked with investigating the shooting.

A suspect who was being taken into custody for the disappearance and presumed murder of Filipino American Alexis Gabe was fatally shot by police officers in Kent, Washington, on Wednesday. 

Identified as the victim’s ex-boyfriend, 27-year-old Marshall Curtis Jones was killed inside an apartment in the 3500 block of South 222 Place as the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force was serving an arrest warrant at around 5:45 p.m.

A man allegedly responsible for more than half of all anti-Asian hate crimes recorded in San Francisco last year is reportedly out of custody, raising safety concerns across local communities.

Derik Barreto, 37, is accused of targeting 20 Chinese-owned businesses and seven others in Chinatown, the Ingleside neighborhood and the Ocean Avenue corridor between April and August of 2021. He allegedly rode on a scooter and used a slingshot, pipe or hammer to destroy the stores’ windows, as seen in several surveillance videos.
