Legendary Hong Kong Director Wong Kar-wai Granted Honorary Harvard Degree

Legendary Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai recently received an honorary degree from Harvard University along with six other talented international professionals.

Wong’s honorary degree of doctor of arts for his contribution to the film industry was awarded to him during Harvard University’s 367th Commencement last Thursday. It was the first time an Asian filmmaker received such a recognition from the prestigious university.

Legendary Hong Kong Director Seeks Chinese American Actors For Lead Role in Amazon’s ‘Tong Wars’

Amazon is now searching for Chinese American actors for its upcoming series “Tong Wars”, a historical crime drama which focuses on the gang wars between Chinese criminal organizations of 19th century San Francisco.

Renowned Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar Wai (“In the Mood for Love”, “The Grandmaster”) is set to direct the series written by Paul Attanasio (“The Sum of All Fears”, “The Good German”). 

Amazon Orders New Drama About SF Chinatown’s Historic Tong Wars to be Directed By Wong Kar-Wai

Amazon ordered several new projects for its online streaming platform including a Wong Kar-wai directed drama, a comedy featuring Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph, and three others down the line.

Tong Wars”, an hour-long drama directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai, follows the story of conflict and disputes between rival Tong gang factions in several Chinatowns located in the United States during the 1880s to 1930s. Variety learned that Paul Attansio has been tapped to write the drama as well as take the executive producer chair.
