UNICEF USA appointed former NBA star Jeremy Lin as its newest ambassador on Friday.
Why this matters: Lin, who currently plays for the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), will focus on youth mental health in his new role. His appointment came ahead of World Mental Health Day on Sunday.
Chinese Canadian actor Simu Liu has been named the new ambassador of UNICEF Canada.
The role, officially announced on Monday, will see the 31-year-old “Kim’s Convenience” star raise awareness for children’s rights in Canada and around the world.
The announcement came on Monday during the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) at the Lao Generation 2030 Forum in Vientiane, Laos, according to UNICEF.
It is unclear exactly how much Jin has donated to the United Nations Children’s Fund, but in order to become a member of its Honors Club, one must donate over 100 million Korean won (or approximately $84,000) to become eligible.
