K-pop Weekly: Queen BoA returns, NMIXX gets glittery, BTS’s RM reveals album tracklist and featured artists

Happy holidays! This week was a bit lighter on music, but there were still a handful of noteworthy releases, starting with the long-awaited return of K-pop queen BoA and her album “Forgive Me.” KANGDANIEL released a repackage album titled “The Story : RETOLD,” and NMIXX got the Christmas season started early with their first holiday single, “Funky Glitter Christmas.”  

Music Releases Nov. 22, Tuesday BoA, the “Queen of K-pop,” has returned after two years with new album “Forgive Me” and its title track of the same name. The album also includes the B-sides “Zip,” “Sketch,” “After,” Midnight” and “Hope.” Half of the album was co-written and co-composed by BoA. 

K-pop rookie girl group NMIXX make first comeback with single album ‘Entwurf’

  • K-pop rookie girl group NMIXX released their second single album “Entwurf” and the music video for title track “Dice” on Monday. 
  • In addition to “Dice,” the album also comes with a B-side “COOL (Your Rainbow),” as well as instrumentals for both songs. 
  • NMIXX and its members Haewon, Lily, Sullyoon, Jinni, BAE, Jiwoo and Kyujin debuted earlier this year under JYP Entertainment with the single album “Ad Mare,” led by the title track “O.O.”  
  • The girl group made their U.S. debut at KCON Premiere in Chicago. They notably performed at KCON LA in August and are slated to perform at KCON Japan in October.

K-pop fans outraged after TikToker posts video of himself asking out NMIXX member Sullyoon

  • Tiktok user @jermbarrett sparked controversy online with K-pop fans for his video where he attempts to ask out NMIXX member Sullyoon.
  • In the video, Barrett introduces himself in Korean and says to Sullyoon, “Yeah, if you’re in L.A. for a long time, I’d like to take you out to dinner,” to which the idol then turns to bow with her group and say farewell without responding to Barrett.
  • Barrett was attending a private business party function where NMIXX was in attendance off the heels of their KCON LA 2022 headlining performance in August.
  • He has limited the comments on his videos and set his Instagram to private.
  • Other comments highlight that he does not appear to be a K-pop fan and was given priority by KCON over press and journalists.

K-pop fans are outraged after a TikTok user posted a video of himself attempting to ask out Sullyoon from the girl group NMIXX.

In a now-deleted video by TikTok user @jermbarrett that has since been reposted on Twitter, Barrett is seen at a party where the JYP Entertainment girl group was also in attendance. In the video, he says, “Alright, this is NMIXX. I’m going to ask her out to dinner in Korean.” He then walks over to Sullyoon and introduces himself in Korean. She politely bows and shakes his hand. 

K-pop girl group Nmixx covers Rainbow’s 2009 hit ‘Kiss’

  • Nmixx released a cover Sunday of the 2009 song “Kiss” by former K-pop girl group Rainbow.
  • In partnership with Warner Music Korea, the cover is part of an ongoing series on YouTube called “Re:born Project,” which features various Korean artists’ renditions of hit songs.
  • Nmixx and its members Haewon, Lily, Sullyoon, Jinni, BAE, Jiwoo and Kyujin debuted earlier this year under JYP Entertainment with the single album “Ad Mare,” led by the title track “O.O.”
  • The seven-member group will perform at KCON LA 2022 this month at the Crypto.com Arena.

JYP Entertainment girl group Nmixx dropped a cover Sunday of “Kiss,” a 2009 song from the former K-pop girl group Rainbow.

The Warner Music Korea music video sees the septet at a summer party as they sing their rendition of Rainbow’s song off their 2009 debut album “Gossip Girl.”
