Disney Orders Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Reshoot Because They Put ‘Middle Eastern Face’ on White People

An insider behind the scenes of the live-action adaptation of Disney’s “Aladdin” revealed that executives were not impressed with the first cut, so they want to do a reshoot to include more Middle Eastern extras.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, the movie is scheduled to wrap up filming sometime in January 2019. However, after seeing the first cut, Disney executives were not satisfied.

Mulan Begins Filming This Month! Here’s Everything We Know So Far

Mulan Liu YiFei

Disney is slated to begin filming the eagerly awaited live-action “Mulan” movie this month as key members of the cast and crew are being finalized. Disney just added a new Aladdin character in the upcoming live-action remake of the beloved animated film from the 90s: a White prince named Prince Anders. According to Hollywood Reporter, the part will be brought to life by Billy Magnussen, the actor who is arguably most famous for his role as Rapunzel’s Prince in the Hollywood adaptation of the Broadway musical “Into the Woods”.

No further details about this new character have been revealed as of yet, but there is speculation that Prince Anders will play a romantic rival to Prince Ali, Aladdin’s royal, rich alter-ego.

Disney Makes the Right Choice on How to Cast the Live-Action ‘Aladdin’

Disney seems to (thankfully) be making sure whitewashing won’t be an issue for its upcoming live-action adaptation of “Aladdin”.

If the casting call’s header, which simply states, “These characters are Middle Eastern,” is any indication, it appears the production is making an effort in driving the movie in the right direction — much like how the live-action version of “Mulan” is being handled.
