Netflix announced the release date of its upcoming series “Mech Cadets” on Monday.
The 10-episode animated show, which is an adaptation of the bestselling comic series “Mech Cadet Yu” by Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa, will premiere on Aug. 10, Deadline reported.
“Fifty years in the future, after a terrifying alien species attacked our planet, teenager Stanford Yu works as a janitor at the Sky Corps Military Academy,” the show’s logline states. “But he’s only dreamed of one thing his entire life — to pilot a Robo Mech, giant robots from outer space who came to our aid.”
“When he finally gets his shot, Stanford and his classmates must put aside all personal differences and work together as a team in order to defend humanity against a new invasion of aliens.”
Netflix previously announced “Mech Cadets in May 2021.
In addition to “Mech Cadets,” the streaming platform shared that two other Asian American-led projects — “The Monkey King” and “Boons and Curses” — will be available for streaming this year.
“Mech Cadets” stars Daniel Dae Kim (“Lost,” “Hawaii Five-O“), Disney (“Mulan,” “The Mandalorian“), Brandon Soo Hoo (“Teen Titans: The Judas Contract”) and Debra Wilson (“MADtv,” “Family Guy“). Aaron Lam will executive produce the series alongside Boom! Studios and Japanese studio Polygon Pictures.
“It is important for us to create stories that exemplify our teams’ diverse voices and art as a studio based in Tokyo, Japan,” Jack Liang, an executive producer at Polygon Pictures, said in a statement.
Polygon Pictures has previously worked on popular shows such as Disney‘s “Star Wars: Resistance” and Netflix’s “Love, Death & Robots.”
