A dedicated Russell Westbrook fan flew over 6,800 miles from Taiwan to attend the Los Angeles Clippers game against the Lakers on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Every Westbrook jersey ever (almost): The unidentified Taiwanese fan was captured on video showing off 15 jerseys representing Westbrook’s NBA journey from Oklahoma City Thunder to the Clippers, omitting only his Lakers stint.
In the video, as the fan peels off his multitude of Westbrook jerseys, another person can be seen holding a sign behind him that reads, “I flew 6769 miles to see my GOAT Westbrook.”
Devotion on display: Each of the jerseys the man wore represents a different phase of Westbrook’s career, including his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards and his current team, the Los Angeles Clippers. Notably absent was a Lakers jersey, which was probably intentional given Westbrook’s brief stint with the team.
Fans take notice: While it’s unclear if Westbrook personally noticed or acknowledged the fan’s dedication, the fan’s story gained traction after the Clippers shared a video about him on their official social media accounts. Fans flooded the comments section, expressing their admiration for the man’s effort.
“This man deserves to receive a jersey from Westbrook,” a commenter wrote.
“Hope Russ signs them all,” another wrote.
“Hopes Russ took a picture with him!” chimed in another.
In October 2023, another fan showed up to a game wearing eight of Westbrook’s jerseys. Recognizing the fan’s passion, Westbrook went on to gift him a signed jersey. During the post-game interview, he highlighted his gratitude for his supporters, saying, “I don’t take any people that support me for granted.”
A legacy that resonates: At age 35, Westbrook has transitioned to a reserve role, but his dominant performances during his prime continue to resonate with fans worldwide. Between 2016 and 2021, he achieved the incredible feat of averaging a triple-double for four out of five seasons. This, along with his Most Valuable Player award and numerous All-Star appearances, solidifies Westbrook’s legacy as one that extends far beyond his current role.
