Chinese Netizens Have the Most Epic Nicknames for NBA Players

Chinese netizens have set the internet abuzz for the nicknames they gave for top NBA players surfaced online.

Nick Kapur, a historian of East Asia with a Ph.D. from Harvard, shared the list of monikers on Twitter.

The assistant professor at Rutgers University said that Chinese internet users found that official sources use “boring phonetic translations, failing to take advantage of Chinese characters having both sound and meaning.”

As a result, they took matters into their own hands and “improved” the official names.
