mid autumn festival
The rich and heartwarming culture of the Mid-Autumn Festival season is here, and this year we were treated to a very special celebration by Hennessy X.O and hosted by Harry Shum Jr! The virtual event, “A Moonlight Odyssey,” connected us all with amazing performances by NIKI, Hayley Kiyoko, Guapdad 4000 and Bohan Phoenix, let us sit in on touching stories with filmmaker Eddie Huang and the founders of Omsom, and taught us a few special Hennessy cocktails with mixologist Inga Tantisalidchai.
To continue to honor this amazing holiday celebrated all over the world, let’s go on our own little odyssey to explore the legends that have survived thousands of years to bring us the rich culture, the fun holiday and the tasty mooncakes we have today.
NextShark is proud to partner with Hennessy X.O to celebrate this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival on September 23 at 9:00 p.m. EDT on Facebook Live!

During Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節) Chinese people across the globe enjoy a delicious tradition — mooncakes to share with family and friends while celebrating the moon. Mooncakes are traditionally filled with either red bean or lotus paste along with an egg yolk. There are many variations such as matcha, custard, or chocolate to accommodate more modern tastes. However, in recent years we have been seeing brands get truly creative with their cakes, varying from ridiculously extravagant to absurdly weird.
Here are some mooncakes that you might wish or not wish to have:
A Chinese man’s blood turned milky-white after his triglyceride level spiked for eating at least three to four mooncakes every day because he was worried that the pastries would go to waste.
The man, identified as Wang from Hangzhou, China went to the hospital for his check-up this month. However, medical staff were surprised to see the blood taken from sample was thick and cloudy, AsiaOne reported.
A unique spin on a classic Chinese dish, spicy chicken mooncakes are launching at a new KFC in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
The new special mooncake, which are just in time for the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 13, comes in the form of mini mooncakes with spicy chicken, crushed almonds and walnuts, and sunflower seeds as filling, South China Morning Post reported.
