‘Bling Empire’ star Kane Lim named newest ambassador of Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty

  • “Bling Empire” star Kane Lim was announced on Monday as the newest ambassador and face for Rihanna’s billion-dollar beauty brand Fenty Beauty.
  • Lim is the first Southeast Asian ambassador for the brand and will participate in a campaign set to debut in Singapore’s Sephora flagship store this month.
  • The 31-year-old currently works as a real estate agent for Oppenheim Group in West Hollywood and is well known for his philanthropic work.
  • Lim developed a close friendship with Rihanna after the two kept in contact through Instagram for many years.
  • As the newest ambassador of Fenty Beauty, Lim hopes to change negative stigmas around men and skincare while uplifting both Black and Asian communities.

Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty announced on Monday that “Bling Empire” star Kane Lim will serve as the newest ambassador and face for the billion-dollar beauty brand.

Lim was born and raised in Singapore, moving to Los Angeles in 2014, and is well known for being a part of the cast of the Netflix reality series “Bling Empire,” which features the glamorous lifestyles of wealthy Asian and Asian American socialites.

  • At a Chinese American gala event on Thursday, Chinese ambassador to the U.S. Qin Gang called on Chinese Americans to “help build [a] China-U.S. friendship" and “bridge differences and ease confrontation.”
  • In the opening of his speech, Ambassador Qin also added that “ultimately Chinese Americans can only prosper when the China-U.S. relationship enjoys sound and stable development.”
  • Qin described the U.S. and China as “going through serious difficulties” and stated, “The China-U.S. relationship concerns not only the future of the world, but also the welfare of Chinese Americans.”
  • The reception was held from May 5-7 in Washington, D.C., and included members of the Committee of 100 in attendance.
  • As with previous years, members and speakers at the annual conference and gala met to discuss the “state of Chinese Americans” as well as “the future of the U.S. China relationship.”
  • In the last part of his speech, Ambassador Qin promoted the idea of younger generations connecting more with their Chinese ancestry.
  • “No matter where they are, people of Chinese origin share the same ancestry. The yellow skin and dark eyes are a gift from our ancestors,” he told the audience.

At a gala event hosted by an elite leadership organization of Chinese Americans on Thursday evening, Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Qin Gang called on Chinese Americans to “help build [a] China-U.S. friendship” and “bridge differences and ease confrontation.”

Chinese ambassador congratulates South Korean skater Hwang Dae-heon on Olympic gold win

  • Skater Hwang Dae-heon won South Korea's first gold medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics in the men's 1,500-meter skating event on Wednesday.
  • In congratulating Hwang, Chinese ambassador to South Korea Xing Haiming noted in his statement that the Chinese people’s positive response to the victory shows “true friendship of the two countries' people.”
  • The message came a few days after Xing’s office expressed "grave concern" over earlier accusations from South Korea that referees were favoring the Chinese team with biased officiating.
  • Hwang had earlier been disqualified, along with fellow Team South Korea athlete Lee June-seo, in a separate event on Monday.
  • The Korean Sport and Olympic Committee (KSOC) accused the referees of being “biased and not transparent” and filed a complaint with the International Skating Union (ISU), who rejected the complaint and stood by the referee's decision.

The Chinese ambassador to South Korea congratulated South Korean short-track speed skater Hwang Dae-heon for winning an Olympic gold medal just days after South Korea accused officials of favoring Chinese skaters.

In a statement delivered through his spokesperson on Thursday, Ambassador Xing Haiming said, “With regard to the athlete Hwang Dae-heon’s performance, Chinese people are also positively evaluating it in show of the true friendship of the two countries’ people,” reported Korea Herald.
