It looks like fans might not have to wait too long before witnessing Shang-Chi team up with other Marvel superheroes.
Speaking to People at the Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences Sci-Tech Awards on Friday, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” star Simu Liu, 33, mentioned an upcoming Marvel film that will include several popular superheroes, including the one he plays.
I’m such a big fan of both the characters and the performers that play them [in the upcoming film], so any collaboration is an opportunity for me to work alongside someone who, in their own way, is breaking barriers and at the very top of their game. I think that’s what excites me the most as a performer, [and] also as a fan. And who knows, they might see something sooner than you think. We’ll see.
During his San Diego Comic-Con appearance last year in July, Liu hinted that he might become “busy the next few years” after watching Marvel’s presentation about upcoming projects and the new Multiverse Saga.
I don’t want to jump the gun or anything, but I feel like there might be room for me in a couple of those, wouldn’t you say? I was watching the presentation basically from Twitter and being like, ‘Oh, I’m going to be busy. I’m going to be busy the next few years.’
While his future appearances in other projects remain unclear, Liu is set to reprise his role as the wielder of the mysterious Ten Rings in “Shang-Chi 2.”
“The invitation to participate [is] certainly very humbling,” Liu told People. “I’m extremely honored to have even been given the opportunity to play in that sandbox with such incredible auteurs every step of the way.”
“[I’m honored] just getting to do something completely different than the Marvel thing and fighting, and letting it be about the dance and the color and the vibrancy of that movie,” he continued.
