H.E.R. is set to join the upcoming Broadway musical “Here Lies Love” as a producer.
The musical, whose official opening night is scheduled for July 20, tells the story of the Philippines’ former First Lady Imelda Marcos and how she fell from power following the 1986 People Power Revolution.
“Filipinos are a global people. We come in all colors and build bridges across cultures. I am beyond excited to produce my first Broadway musical and forge a unique and meaningful partnership with ‘Here Lies Love,'” H.E.R., 25, said in a recent statement.
H.E.R., who has five Grammys, an Oscar and an Emmy under her belt, is no stranger to theater.
In December 2022, she notably starred as Belle in ABC’s 30th anniversary celebration of Disney‘s “Beauty and the Beast” and highlighted several Filipino elements in the production.
Tony and Olivier Award-winner Lea Salonga, who will also be producing “Here Lies Love,” praised H.E.R. in a recent statement.

On behalf of our binational producing team, we welcome Gabi [H.E.R., who was born Gabriella Wilson] to the ‘Here Lies Love’ team with open arms! I am a huge fan of her genre-defying and multifaceted artistry, and it’s empowering to welcome another Filipino artist to our ranks. Together, we are throwing the biggest party Broadway has ever seen – and everyone is invited!

In addition to producing, the 52-year-old star is notably set to make a guest appearance in the musical from July 11 to August 13. This will mark her first Filipino role in a Broadway musical, as well as her return to the Broadway Theatre, where she made her Broadway debut as Kim in “Miss Saigon” in 1991.
“Here Lies Love,” which was created by musicians David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, premiered off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2013.
It would run again at the same theater from 2014 and 2015 before being picked up for Broadway.
In addition to Salonga, other stars from the Philippines will appear in the musical this summer, including Jose Llana and Conrad Ricamora.
