BigBang’s G-Dragon, also known as Kwon Ji-yong, has signed an exclusive contract with Galaxy Corporation, marking a major career shift following the end of his longstanding association with label YG Entertainment.
G-Dragon’s new partnership: Galaxy Corporation, known primarily for its AI and metaverse projects, is expanding into the music industry with the 35-year-old rapper and songwriter as its flagship artist. The company, which recently produced the Netflix show “Physical: 100,” officially welcomed G-Dragon during a press conference at the JW Marriott Hotel in Seoul on Dec. 21.
Galaxy’s Chief ESG Officer Cho Sung-hae revealed that the artist is poised for a comeback in 2024. G-Dragon took to Instagram to share an image commemorating his new journey with Galaxy Corporation. The artist is expected to hold a press conference with South Korean reporters and engage with fans in early 2024.
Anti-drug foundation: Cho also addressed G-Dragon’s recent legal issues over drug allegations, declaring that the South Korean police had cleared the artist of all allegations.
While G-Dragon was not present during the press conference, he wrote a letter unveiling his plan to establish an anti-drug foundation dedicated to supporting individuals in need of treatment. He also detailed his vision for a society built on respect and fair treatment.
Warning against rumors: Galaxy Corporation issued a stern warning to those spreading defamatory content about G-Dragon, setting a deadline of Dec. 28 for removal or correction. The company vowed to pursue legal action against such content after the set date.
Potential BigBang collab: Reports also suggest plans for the company to set up a branch in Japan to support G-Dragon’s activities in the country beginning next year. The company also held preliminary discussions with Big Bang‘s Daesung, indicating a potential collaboration and support for both solo and group endeavors.
