K-pop soloist and former BIGBANG leader G-Dragon, 35, has been booked by the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency for illegal drug use, according to South Korean media.
Details: G-Dragon, whose real name is Ji-yong Kwon, is allegedly in violation of the Narcotics Control Act, which lists three categories of controlled substances: narcotics, cannabis and psychotropic substances. He has not been detained, as per the Korea Herald.
Previous marijuana use: G-Dragon was previously found to have illegally smoked marijuana at a club in Japan in 2011. However, he was not prosecuted because he only smoked a tiny amount, the Korea Times reported.
YG Entertainment’s response: While G-Dragon has not been detained, he is expected to be questioned in the coming days, according to Yonhap News. His former management, YG Entertainment, told reporters that it is “difficult to officially respond as he’s not an artist belonging to our company.”
G-Dragon’s contract with YG expired in June. However, the label at the time announced that it was still collaborating with him “through a separate contract for his other activities such as advertisement, etc.”
Concurrent drug cases: G-Dragon’s booking on illegal drug use follows those of eight other suspects earlier this week. Among them is “Parasite” actor Lee Sun-kyun, who was subsequently dropped from the upcoming drama film “No Way Out,” as per The Hollywood Reporter.
