Disney’s timeless animated movie classic “Mulan” celebrated its 25th anniversary this month.
The voice of Mulan: Ming-na Wen, 59, did not miss the chance to greet the animated classic a happy 25th anniversary on Twitter by re-sharing Disney’s tweet of one of her quotes from several years ago.
While celebrating the 20th anniversary of “Mulan” in 2018, Wen, who was inducted into Disney Legends in 2019, reflected how she was ecstatic to have played a character who has had a long-lasting effect on girls, boys and adults even to this day.
Generational influence: Wen noted that many parents have approached to tell her how Mulan made an impact in their lives when it was first released theatrically nationwide in the U.S. on June 19, 1998, and their children’s lives as well.
“It’s the magic of Disney to be able to translate a Chinese story and make it relatable to everyone for all generations,” Wen, who recently received her Hollywood Walk of Fame star, said.
Anniversary product releases: As part of its 25th-anniversary celebration, Disney also released new merchandise based on the movie, notably a 13-inch-tall resin figure of Mulan sitting on a dragon spirit sculpture from the “Reflection” scene, priced at $160, and a 17-inch (43.18 centimeters) limited-edition doll with elaborate clothing, priced at $149.
The movie’s plot: “Mulan,” based on an ancient Chinese tale, follows the story of the titular character, who has to dress up like a man to save her father from military conscription to fight against the invading Huns.
Musical scores: The Disney animated film’s two most memorable songs are still popular to this day: “Reflection,” sung by Filipino singer Lea Salonga, and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You,” performed in the movie by Donny Osmond.
What people are saying: Several Twitter users celebrated the film’s 25th anniversary under Disney’s official post, with some stating that it was one of their favorite Disney movies, while others agreeing that “Mulan” is the “Greatest Disney Princess movie without question.”
