After months of rumors and speculation, it has finally been confirmed that “The White Lotus” Season 3 will be set in Asia.
The HBO comedy-drama is heading for Thailand, reported Variety. While Seasons 1 and 2 of the hit show took place in Hawaii and Italy, respectively, it is likely that Season 3 will be set in one of Thailand’s Four Seasons resorts in Bangkok, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and the Golden Triangle.
“The White Lotus” Season 3 was officially confirmed by HBO in November 2022.
The month prior, series creator Mike White mentioned going to “a whole different continent” for the show’s third season, then specifically referred to Japan while talking about Jennifer Coolidge, who plays Tanya on the show.
Since then, countless fans have been speculating about where the show would take them next. Many looked to Asia after White hinted in December 2022 that Season 3 might be set there and focus on “death and Eastern religion and spirituality.”
“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” White shared during an “Unpacking” clip of the show. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
Last month, executive producer David Bernad teased that Season 3 might be set in Asia, saying, “We’ve tried to work in Asia a lot and hopefully Season 3 will be our chance to make something happen there.”
According to Variety, White has been going around Thailand to check out different sites, which is why production on Season 3 has not yet started.
The media outlet also noted that casting details have yet to be shared.
During Season 1, viewers were introduced to Tanya (Coolidge), Armond (Murray Bartlett), Nicole Mossbacher (Connie Britton), and Rachel Patton (Alexandra Daddario), among other characters. Season 2 saw the introduction of several characters, including Bert Di Grasso (F. Murray Abraham), Albie Di Grasso (Adam DiMarco), Quentin (Tom Hollander), Cameron Sullivan (Theo James), Harper Spiller (Aubrey Plaza) and Ethan Spiller (Will Sharpe).
