Studio Ghibli has released the official teaser trailer for its latest film, “The Boy and the Heron,” and finally announced the movie’s U.S. release date.
Key details: Studio Ghibli and U.S. film distributor GKIDS shared the teaser trailer for legendary director Hayao Miyazaki’s final film on Wednesday.
Last week, the Japanese animation studio shared a synopsis of the film: “A young boy named Mahito yearning for his mother ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead, where death finds its end, and life embarks on a new beginning.”
What to expect: “The Boy and the Heron” will reportedly be released in the U.S. with both an English-language version and an original Japanese version with English subtitles.
Reception in Japan: Despite Studio Ghibli’s unconventional marketing approach, “The Boy and the Heron” has performed well at the Japanese box office, setting a record with the biggest opening weekend of any Studio Ghibli production in Japan.
