The two unnamed hikers, a 61-year-old from Nagoya and a 69-year-old from Ichinomiya, were climbing the 1,895-meter-tall (approximately 6,217 feet) Mount Misen in central Japan, reported The Asahi Shumbun

Missing Hikers Found Holding Each Other in Joshua Tree Died in Apparent Murder-Suicide

A couple who went missing in Joshua Tree National Park back in July died in a murder-suicide, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff press release.

Authorities found the bodies of Rachel Nguyen, 20, of Westminster, and Joseph Orbeso, 21, of Lakewood, on Sunday after spending over 2,100 hours searching for them. The couple was found embracing each other inside “a steep canyon to the far north of the Maze Loop Trailhead,” according to the sheriff’s statement. A handgun was also recovered from the site.

Bodies of Possible Missing California Hikers Found Holding Each Other in Joshua Tree National Park

A park ranger in Southern California found two bodies on Sunday, which are believed to be the remains of hikers who went missing nearly three months ago — 20-year-old Rachel Nguyen and 21-year-old Joseph Orbeso.

Public Information Officer Jodi Miller of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the agency was notified at around 1:50 p.m. on Sunday regarding the two discovered bodies in Joshua Tree National Park. The bodies were found embracing one another.
