Jeremy Theron Smith, 37, allegedly started having delusions about Asians attacking him after he was involved in a car crash with an Asian driver two years ago, his girlfriend previously told authorities.

  • The unidentified victim, a Korean immigrant, was visiting the salon for the first time to get her hair done when the shooting took place.

  • While the victim dodged paralysis, she developed trauma and insomnia.
  • The suspect, Jeremy Theron Smith, has been charged with seven counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remains in jail on a $700,000 bond.

The victim, 58, headed to the salon for the first time on May 11 to get her hair done — only to be shot and then left traumatized.

  • Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty (D, OH-3) spoke at the Capitol on Thursday, stating that “three people in a Korean-owned hair salon” were gunned by another “white supremacy replacement theorist,” when the suspect is Black.
  • Beatty, who is also chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), mistakenly blamed white supremacy for the shooting at the Dallas Korean hair salon that left three women of Korean descent wounded.
  • What Beatty did get right, however, was that the shooting was most likely a hate crime, based on police reports.
  • Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia announced on Tuesday the arrest of 36-year-old Jeremy Theron Smith, who is believed to have mental health issues.
  • According to Garcia, the gunman suffered from “panic attacks and delusions when he was around anyone of Asian descent.”

Dallas Korean hair salon shooting suspect had ‘delusions’ about Asian Americans, according to arrest warrant

  • Jeremy Theron Smith, who opened fire inside a Korean-owned hair salon in northwest Dallas on May 11, was arrested on three charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Tuesday morning.
  • The 37-year-old suspect’s girlfriend told police that he had been admitted into health facilities due to his “delusions” about Asian Americans. She said that Smith was involved in a car crash involving an Asian driver about two years ago and has since “had near panic attacks when he is around anyone of Asian descent” and “delusions that the Asian mob is after him or attempting to harm him.”
  • Smith admitted to being in the Dallas area, owning the red minivan and possessing a .380-caliber handgun and a .22-caliber rifle. 
  • Police Chief Eddie Garcia said the shooting could be linked to two other shootings at separate businesses run by Asian Americans.
  • Smith is currently being held at the Dallas County jail, and his bond has not been set yet.
