United Airlines announced earlier on Thursday 10 major policies to prevent another incident of violently removing a passenger and improve customers’ experience — and some changes have already been implemented.
The announcement comes after the shocking video of Dr. David Dao, who was forcibly removed from a flight because United needed extra seats for standby crew members, went viral on April 9, leaving the man with a concussion and two missing teeth.
Thomas Demetrio, the attorney representing Dr. David Dao, the man forcibly dragged out of an overbooked United Airlines flight in early April, has reached a settlement with the United Airlines, his Chicago firm announced Thursday.
Dr. Dao’s lawyers, Thomas A. Demetrio of Corboy & Demetrio and Stephen L. Golan of Golan Christie Taglia, and United’s legal representatives have worked out the settlement with a condition that the amount remain confidential.
Jason Powell, a passenger on the same United Airlines flight as David Dao, said that one of the three officers was “laughing” as he dragged the 69-year-old doctor off the plane.
On April 11, the Chicago Tribune published an op-ed letter in which a Louisville, Kentucky, high school teacher described the incident on Sunday that involved Dao being forcibly removed from an overbooked flight at O’Hare International Airport.
United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz said the company will cease using police officers to remove passengers from an overbooked flight following the forceful removal of Dr. David Dao in Chicago on Sunday.
“This will never happen again,” Munoz told ABC News on Wednesday morning. “We are not going to put a law enforcement official onto a plane to take them off … to remove a booked, paid, seated passenger. We can’t do that.”
The saga of Dr. David Dao and United Airlines continues as a new video clip has surfaced showing the moments before the assault.
The man who was assaulted and thrown off a United Airlines flight over the weekend has finally released a statement on the incident.
Speaking to the Louisville-based WLKY, the man, identified as 69-year-old Dr. David Dao, says he’s currently recovering in a Chicago hospital. When asked about his injuries, he reportedly said “everything” was injured and that he wasn’t doing well.
