Disney has released an official teaser trailer for “Raya and the Last Dragon,” its highly-anticipated fantasy epic inspired by cultures of Southeast Asia.
Announced in August 2019, the animated film was originally scheduled to hit theaters next month, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed its release to March 2021.
Kelly Marie Tran has been recast to voice the main character in “Raya and the Last Dragon,” Disney’s animated adventure set in Southeast Asia.
The Vietnamese American star replaces Cassie Steele, who is Filipino Canadian, to become the first Southeast Asian lead in a Disney animated film. So far, there is no official reason for the recast.
Yesterday’s arrival of the teaser trailer for the live-action “Mulan” adaptation was greeted by fans with general excitement.
Many appreciated how the minute-and-a-half clip shows familiar characters and scenes from the beloved 1998 Disney original animation.
Anime is making its return at the Academy Awards this year with the nomination of director Mamoru Hosoda’s film “Mirai” for the “Best Animated Feature Oscar.”
Hosoda, the visionary filmmaker behind “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time,” “Wolf Children,” and “The Boy and the Beast,” among others, has achieved something remarkable; Mirai is the first ever non-Studio Ghibli anime to be nominated.
