“Suzume no Tojimari,” the latest film helmed by “Weathering with You” and “Your Name” director Makoto Shinkai, will hit U.S. cinemas early next year.
On Tuesday, Crunchyroll announced that “Suzume” will make its U.S. premiere on April 14, 2023. The film will also reach other countries on and before this date, including France, Brazil, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
Crunchyroll is working with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Wild Bunch International and Eurozoom to bring “Suzume” to cities outside of Asia.
It follows Suzume, a 17-year-old girl who meets a mysterious man searching for a door. After finding and opening the door, Suzume realizes that other doors around Japan have been opened, wreaking havoc across the country.

Shinkai’s latest film was theatrically released in Japan on Nov. 11 to critical acclaim. As of Sunday, it reportedly earned 7.6 billion yen (approximately $55.6 million) at the Japanese box office, with 5.61 million tickets having been sold.
In April, the film’s trailer was released, garnering more than 5 million views on YouTube alone. “Suzume” was first announced in December 2021, and production reportedly started in April 2020.
