Sony Pictures Classics has released the official trailer for Randall Park’s directorial debut “Shortcomings.”
About the film: The comedy film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Adrian Tomine.
“Shortcomings” follows Ben, a struggling filmmaker residing in Berkeley, California, with his girlfriend Miko, who is employed by a local Asian American film festival. Ben finds himself at a crossroads when Miko begins an internship in New York City. This separation compels him to reassess the trajectory of his life. He embarks on a journey of self-discovery alongside his closest confidante Alice, a queer graduate student who grapples with her own dating challenges.
Cast and crew: “Umbrella Academy” and “Beef” star Justin H. Min plays Ben, “Joy Ride” comedian Sherry Cola plays Alice and Ally Maki from “The Big Door Prize” stars as Miko. Other cast members include “Devs” actor Sonoya Mizuno, Jacob Batalon from “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Debby Ryan, Tavi Gevinson and Timothy Simons.
The screenplay was written by Tomine himself. Park will also produce alongside Hieu Ho, Jennifer Berman, Lia Buman, Howard Cohen, Eric d’Arbeloff, Michael Golamco and Margot Hand.
Release date: “Shortcomings” will hit select theaters across the United States starting on Aug. 4.
