Panda Express test runs ‘Spicy Wagyu Beef Dumplings’ at California location
By Bryan Ke
Panda Express is offering a menu item with 100% wagyu beef for the first time, but only at one location.
Called the Spicy Wagyu Beef Dumplings, the new experimental menu item is available from April 21 to June 1 at the chain’s Innovation Kitchen in Pasadena, California, which serves as the testing grounds for potential new dishes.
An order of the limited-time menu item comes with five dumplings.
Panda Express uses Zhong Sauce from Fly By Jing, a popular Chinese sauce brand originating in Chengdu, to give its special dumplings a little bit of kick.
According to the company, the dumplings are wok-tossed with kale, onion and the exclusive sauce, the latter of which is made with “soy sauce, slow-brewed with brown sugar, mushrooms, garlic and a blend of spices.”
The latest experimental menu item is inspired by Zhong dumplings, a popular street food that can be found in Chengdu. The dumplings were reportedly named after their creator, Mr. Zhong, who created the local delicacy in the late 19th century.
It is unclear if the Spicy Wagyu Beef Dumplings will be added to Panda Express’ official menu once the testing period is over.
