K-pop girl group NewJeans released their sophomore mini-album “Get Up” on Friday.
About the mini-album: “Get Up” features a total of six songs: “Super Shy,” “New Jeans,” “ASAP,” “ETA,” “Cool With You” and “Get Up.”
On Thursday, NewJeans dropped the music video for “ETA,” which was shot entirely on an iPhone 14.
Powerpuff pre-releases: The ADOR girl group — composed of members Hanni, Haerin, Minji, Danielle and Hyein — dropped the pre-release tracks “New Jeans” and “Super Shy” on July 6.
The former serves as the intro track for “Get Up,” and its music video is a special collaboration with “The Powerpuff Girls” franchise in honor of the beloved cartoon characters’ 25th anniversary.
A sample from “Flow,” an OST from the 2006 “Powerpuff Girls Z” anime, kicks off the music video for “New Jeans.” The song’s music video also features each NewJeans member with her own Powerpuff Girl character. Haerin helped co-write the song.
Meanwhile, “Super Shy” samples the original theme song of “The Powerpuff Girls.” Danielle contributed lyrics to the song, whose music video promotes the #ImSuperShy dance challenge — a partnership between NewJeans and YouTube to encourage fans to create their own dance covers, such as “Dance Challenge,” “Super Zoom,” “Super Shy at Home,” “Super Clap” and “Feeling Shy.”
At the time of this writing, NewJeans’ music video for “Super Shy” is No. 28 on the YouTube Top Trending Music Videos chart.
“A” and “B” guest stars: On Wednesday, NewJeans released two music videos for “Cool With You,” which comes in a “side A” version and a “side B” version. Together, the videos tell one continuous narrative through the eyes of a character played by “Squid Game” star Jung Ho-yeon. In the video for the side B version, legendary actor Tony Leung makes a surprise appearance.
Recent music releases: Prior to the release of “Get Up,” NewJeans’ most recent music releases were “Zero (J.I.D. Remix)” and their collaboration with Jon Batiste, Camilo and J.I.D. for the Coca-Cola Studio song “Be Who You Are (Real Magic).”
