Mariah Carey recently gave her seal of approval to all her Filipino fans who are already preparing for Christmas.
What she wrote: On Saturday, Carey, 54, replied to an X post by Mariah Carey Charts (@chartmariah), a fan account.
“@MariahCarey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ received 316K streams on Spotify yesterday, a 75% increase compared to the same day in 2022,” the fan account wrote.
“Not yet!!!!” Carey wrote in her reply. “I’ll allow it for my Filipino lambs [Carey’s fans] though! (I don’t make the rules!)”
Why she wrote it: Although it is only September, several people around the world — especially Filipinos — start getting ready for Christmas once the “ber” months arrive. Around the Philippines, Christmas trees are put up, decorations are hung and Christmas songs — including Carey’s 1994 hit “All I Want For Christmas is You” — are played in homes, restaurants, shopping malls, grocery stores and more starting on Sept. 1.
Carey is seemingly aware of this — although it may seem too early to start preparing for the festive season for most of the world, the superstar’s Filipino fans get a pass.
Recent statistics: “All I Want For Christmas is You” was streamed over 316,000 times on Spotify on Friday. Around 112,000 of those streams were from the Philippines, making Carey’s holiday hit the 82nd most-streamed song in the Southeast Asian nation that day.
As of this writing, “All I Want For Christmas is You” has garnered over 1.45 billion streams in total on Spotify.
