After five months of being together, Mariah Carey has reportedly broken up with her Japanese-American backup dancer Bryan Tanaka.
TMZ broke the story that the now ex-couple have stopped seeing or speaking to each other after their recent Cabo trip, signaling the end of their whirlwind romance. It was reported that Tanaka struggled with “extreme jealousy,” and sometimes would “lash back” at the Carey by openly flirting with other women in her presence.
The news comes after a rumor emerged online alleging that the 47-year-old diva gave Tanaka $25,000 a month just so he can afford to buy her lavish presents.
According to Life & Style magazine (via the Daily Mail), Carey understands that the 33-year-old backup dancer doesn’t earn that much, so she gives him allowance to spend solely on gifts for her. The singing superstar, who is worth almost $520 million, apparently loves to be spoiled by her man. A report by Gossipcop would later debunk the rumor with Carey’s rep saying that the report is “not true.”
“[Bryan] makes his own money, and what he can afford, he buys her,” the source was quoted as saying. “Whenever he gets her something, it’s appreciated.”
While the report confirms that Tanaka is indeed on her payroll (as her dancer) and loves showering gifts to the pop diva, no such gift stipend was included.
Ironically, TMZ also cited that Carey also had issues with always paying for Tanaka, who reportedly loves “super expensive” jewelry, shoes, and other goods.
