One wife from Kangar, Malaysia faced abuse by her furious husband after getting a haircut without his consent.
A 29-year-old woman filed a complaint after her husband beat her up for cutting her hair too short without his permission, according to The Star. The woman suffered injuries on her eye, shoulder and knee.
In her police report, she said that she got her hair colored earlier this month, but when her 27-year-old husband saw it, he scolded her. Because she was worried that her husband would be unhappy with her newly dyed hair, she decided to have it cut short.
However, her husband was far from happy when she returned home with her new hairdo. She said that he got angry and started beating her.
Kangar deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Zaini Talib quickly took action and announced that the husband was already arrested.
In previous a previous report by The Star, it was reported that awareness about domestic violence against women in Malaysia is still pretty low.
“Many Malaysians still think that violence against women only refers to physical abuse, but it goes beyond that,” said Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, senior vice-chairman of Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation.
Many Malaysian women are still unaware that emotional and verbal abuses are also classed as violence against women.
