KFC Japan has gone viral after dressing up a statue of Colonel Sanders with the attire of Tanjiro, the lead character of the hit anime and manga series “Demon Slayer.”
Anime fans took photos with a statue of Colonel Sanders, the founder of world-renowned KFC, at one of the fast-food chain’s branches at Kuki Station in the Saitama Prefecture of Japan, according to
9GAG.
Behind the statue, which is displayed near the entrance of the outlet, the words “Defeat yourself and slash/kill corona” are displayed. This is a slightly altered quote from “Demon Slayer,” which says, “Defeat yourself and slash/kill the demons.”
Last year, KFC Japan made headlines after dressing up a statue of Colonel Sanders in
samurai armor as part of Children’s Day.
“Demon Slayer” is considered by thousands of anime fans as the
most popular series in Japan after Eiichiro Oda’s “One Piece.” The series’ movie version, “Demon Slayer: The Movie: Mugen Train,” has also dethroned Studio Ghibli’s “Spirited Away” as the most successful film in Japan. It was also recently submitted to
compete at the 93rd Academy Awards.
