Filipino singer and actor Juan Karlos Labajo has made history with his latest single “ERE,” which became the first Filipino track to debut on Spotify’s global chart.
“ERE” on the global chart: The song, which gained popularity online before entering the global chart, secured the 177th position with 1.22 million streams on Spotify. It also set an all-time record for the highest single-day streams on the Spotify Philippines chart, with 1.393 million streams, surpassing Taylor Swift’s “Mine (Taylor’s Version).”
According to the music platform’s chart data, “ERE” also rose up to No. 87 on the global chart following another 230,000 streams.

About the song: “ERE,” which was released on Spotify on Aug. 4, is one of the tracks off Labajo’s latest album “Sad Songs and Bullsh*t Part 1.” The album was inspired by a breakup, reflecting his emotional struggle to cope with the aftermath of a failed relationship. In June 2022, Labajo announced his breakup with Filipino actress and model Maureen Wroblewitz, who became the first Filipino to win “Asia’s Next Top Model.”
The song “ERE” encapsulates feelings of injustice, anger and confusion that often accompany being abandoned, while also expressing a desire for closure and the determination to move forward.
“I’ve gone through [it], everybody goes through it and I think for me it so happened that when I write music, it becomes like word vomiting, putting melodies in all these emotions that I had at that time,” Labajo told CNN Philippines. “That’s why it’s called Sad Songs and the b word because the sad songs came after the breakup but then like I had so many love songs I wrote after our relationship ended. It really didn’t make sense.”
Album release: Labajo decided to release the album in two parts due to the large number of songs (18 in total) and his busy schedule. The second part will reportedly be released sometime early next year.
About Labajo: The 22-year-old singer gained widespread recognition in the Philippines at the age of 13 through his participation in the reality singing competition “The Voice Kids Philippines” in 2014, where he became a finalist and finished in third place.
Following his stint on the show, Labajo continued to pursue a music career, releasing several successful singles and albums that often explore themes of love, relationships and personal emotions. He also went on to pursue an acting career, landing supporting roles in ABS-CBN television series.
