She’s experienced bullying and has been dubbed by another contestant as a “pretty face with no skills”, but 19-year-old Maureen Wroblewitz has remained a formidable contender in the current season of “Asia’s Next Top Model”, even securing her spot in the show’s Grand Finale.
After recently edging out Indonesia’s Clara Tan, the Filipina model joins Vietnam’s Minh Tu Nguyen and Malaysia’s Shikin Gomez in the top three of the competition, reports the Inquirer
In an interview with Preview, the Filipina finalist revealed that she felt “very insecure” during the “Next Top Model” photo shoots because she was the “youngest, the shortest and the girl with the least experience.”
Wroblewitz, who is now gearing up for the final challenge along with the two other finalists, was named in this week’s bottom two along with Indonesia’s Clara Tan, who got eliminated on Wednesday.
In an Instagram post after the episode, Wroblewitz took a swipe at Tan, who earlier criticized her for being just a “pretty face with no skills.”
“Who would’ve thought a ‘pretty face with no skills’ would fight her way to Top 3?” she wrote.

Who would’ve thought a ‘pretty face with no skills’ would fight her way to Top 3?! Tu and Shikin have been my biggest competitors from the start and it’s crazy that I get to be in the top with them. We couldn’t be any more diverse from looks to personality. The only thing we’ve got in common now, is the determination to win! Never have I expected to come this far! This makes me even more proud of all the things I’ve achieved during the competition. There are so many things I’ve learned and experienced, and now it’s the last time I get to show it all. This week was very overwhelming for me. First, the really tough challenge, where I had to face my fear of heights in the most insane way and then the photoshoot where we had to create our own story. This is also where I decided to talk about my personal story, which wasn’t an easy thing for me to do. After everything this week, I didn’t expect to be part of the Finale. But I’m glad I am. I’m not done yet showing all I’ve got 💓💓💓 #AsNTM #AsNTM5 #ExpectTheUnexpected #TeamMaureen #TeamPhilippines #PhilippinesOnTop

She also complimented her fellow finalists in the post, saying, “Tu and Shikin have been my biggest competitors from the start and it’s crazy that I get to be in the top with them. We couldn’t be any more diverse from looks to personality. The only thing we’ve got in common now is the determination to win!”
She then added: “Never have I expected to come this far! This makes me even more proud of all the things I’ve achieved during the competition. There are so many things I’ve learned and experienced, and now it’s the last time I get to show it all.”
Wroblewitz, who celebrates her birthday today, is now hoping to finally notch a victory from the Philippines since the country has remained winless in the past four seasons.
Thailand has won two times, while Malaysia and Indonesia have each won a season. The Philippines has placed runner-up spots from seasons 1-3.
According to ASNTM, Wroblewitz got into modeling at age 15 after she was discovered by a modeling agent on Instagram.
As she was based in Germany, she made a decision to move to the Philippines to pursue her modeling career.
Raised by her Filipina mom, she has also been visiting the Philippines every year, learning more about the culture with each trip.
Asia’s Next Top Model finale airs next week, on June 28, 2017.
