Erena So Hoi-lam is making waves in Japan as the first Hong Kong-born actress to join its adult video (AV) industry.

Having completed two AV films following six days of filming during her nine-day stay in Japan, the 26-year-old told local media in Hong Kong that she’s turning her genuine love for sex into a career.

She showered the Japanese production team with praise for their respect and attentiveness towards her, noting that they did not force her to do anything she did not want to do.

So, who is currently learning Japanese, speaks her native language of Cantonese in her debut film as an AV lead actress. She is paired with popular Japanese male porn star Ken Shimizu in the film, which is set to release in the next two weeks.

In the interview, So shared that she has yet to tell her family about her new career but believes that her family will understand her decision once they find out.

“I can’t ask my family to look after me forever,” she was quoted as saying. “I think I can be a success [and later help my family too].”

In Hong Kong, she has appeared on ViuTV‘s “Love Talk” program and in the movie “#PTGF Rental Girlfriend.”

Before breaking into the world of Japanese AV, So said she spent nearly two years trying to get the attention of Japanese porn production companies. After getting ignored or rejected multiple times, she eventually approached production companies in Taiwan to ask for help in contacting their Japanese counterparts.

According to So, she plans to work in the AV industry for at least three years before moving on to other genres of film and TV dramas.

When news of her AV debut emerged on Japanese online forums, she immediately garnered many new fans and supporters who pledged to buy her DVDs.

With the overwhelming support, she decided to organize group orders on her Instagram, facilitating fans who pay HK$7,000 (approximately $892) for 20 DVDs, each costing HK$350 (approximately $45).

So first made headlines in Japan last year after posting a video of herself taking a “naked” walk by the seaside in Tsim Sha Tsui in response to Japan’s “No Bra” movement. The video has been viewed over 130,000 times.

So also has a Patreon account where she sells photos, openly stating that she sells pictures that focus on specific parts of her body.
