Chinese tea sensation Hey Tea debuted its first U.S. store in New York City and sold a record-breaking 2,500 cups on opening day.
Successful debut: Hey Tea opened its flagship store to long lines of eager patrons on Broadway, New York City, on Dec. 8, marking its entry into the U.S. market, according to a press release. The latest outlet follows the brand’s recent expansions into the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Malaysia.
This debut is highlighted by a Times Square billboard promoting its “new-style” brand, referencing Hey Tea’s emphasis on authentic ingredients.
Signature Hey Tea: The Broadway store’s remarkable sales volume on the inaugural day can be attributed to a viral social media buzz, with customers flooding their TikTok and Instagram feeds with pics of the store’s signature offerings. Two signature favorites, the Very Grape Cheese and Roasted Brown Bobo Milk, became the bestselling products of the day.
The brand’s unique approach to tea, incorporating fresh fruits, real milk, natural cane sugar and customized tea bases from various Chinese regions sets it apart from traditional tea offerings prevalent in the U.S. market.
A global brand: The popular tea brand, which opened its first store in Guangdong, China, in 2012, has since expanded to over 3,000 stores worldwide. In a statement, Yujia Gu, vice president of strategy at Hey Tea, expressed the impact of the Broadway store’s opening on the chain’s global expansion.
“As the initial entry point for Hey Tea into the US market, New York holds extraordinary significance for the growth of our brand,” Gu said. “Our goal is to drive an upgrade in the product landscape and continuously expand the space within the American tea drinks market.”
