The suspect who broke a 93-year-old man’s hip in an unprovoked attack in Vancouver’s Chinatown last year has been arrested.

The senior was walking to a bakery on Main Street and East Pender when he was allegedly pushed to the ground by Henry Paul Wiens, 52, at around 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 11, 2022.

The victim, who has been a Chinatown resident for 30 years, required hospitalization due to a broken hip.

Investigators previously released surveillance footage of the 93-year-old falling to the ground in an effort to identify the suspect.

On Feb. 15, the Vancouver Police Department announced a province-wide warrant for Wiens’ arrest.

According to the VPD, officers arrested Wiens in the city’s downtown core on Saturday morning.

He has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.

Police have not stated whether the attack was racially motivated.
