An elderly Asian man succumbed to injuries from a hit-and-run incident in Fremont, Calif., late last month.
What happened: Allen Kwok Keung Sham, 69, was walking along the right lane of Peralta Boulevard on June 30 when a vehicle struck him from behind, according to Fremont police.
  • The incident, which was caught on surveillance video, occurred between 10:15 p.m. and 10:25 p.m. Police said the driver made no attempt to check on Sham.
  • The vehicle stopped “briefly,” backed up and then turned right on Dusterberry Way. Whether it turned right or left on Hansen Avenue or continued toward Thornton Avenue is unknown.
  • Police described the vehicle as a dark-colored sedan. They believe it sustained “moderate damage” to its front bumper, engine hood and/or windshield area.
Injury-related death: Sham died on July 7 from his injuries. His case marks Fremont’s sixth fatal traffic collision investigation in 2021.
  • A preliminary investigation revealed that Sham was pushing a cart “full of recyclables and personal items” when he was hit. Responding officers provided medical aid before he was transported to a local trauma center.
  • The suspect remains at large as of July 12. NextShark has reached out to Fremont police for updates.
