A Filipino couple went viral after the bride’s sister shared a video of their lavish wedding, which was inspired by the hit 2018 movie “Crazy Rich Asians” held in Singapore.
Key details: The video was uploaded to TikTok by user @marygolezmf on Tuesday and has already received over 760,000 views.
It shows snippets from the wedding of her sister JM Tiongco, 26, and husband Abbie Caram, 31, who are both involved in real estate, held at Gardens by the Bay on Sunday.
Their inspiration: The TikTok user, Mary, told AsiaOne that 2018 film “Crazy Rich Asians,” an adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s book of the same title and directed by Jon M. Chu, was their “family’s comfort movie” and served as the wedding’s inspiration thanks to its “colorful palette, concept and flowers.”
The attractions: Some of the lavish entertainment and attractions at the wedding included a red-carpet backdrop, a photo op for guests and family members, stunning lighting from nearby Supertrees, a live lion dance and Chinese dance performances, a jazz singer and a live painter.
Mary also revealed that her sister wore a Vera Wang gown while the groom strutted a custom-dyed pina barong made by Filipino designer AJ Javier.
Preparation and cost: According to Mary, the wedding was planned “via Zoom meeting” and the total cost for it was “at least” 250,000 Singapore dollars (approximately $185,000).
What people are saying: Some commenters were amazed by the extravagant setup of the wedding, while others were more curious about the heat and weather issues in Singapore during the event.
I think my parents will complain abt(sic) the lack of aircon,” one TikTok user commented, while another wrote, “I can’t imagine how humid it must be,” to which Mary replied, “Super humid but was worth the sweat.”
