Filipino American actor Yonas Kibreab is set to make waves as the lead in Pixar’s upcoming sci-fi adventure film, “Elio.”
About the film: “Elio,” which is slated for a theatrical release on March 1, 2024, follows Elio Solis, an 11-year-old boy who struggles to fit in. His life turns upside down after he makes contact with aliens and is mistaken for the intergalactic ambassador of Earth.
Kibreab, 13, is the voice behind the titular character. The film also stars America Ferrera, Jameela Jamil and Brad Garrett.
From tennis to acting: Originally a tennis enthusiast, Kibreab’s career took an unexpected turn after he began creating entertaining tennis-related content on social media with his father. His work caught the attention of the U.S. Tennis Association, which led to his stint as a “kidcaster” at the U.S. Open in New York in 2018.
Ascent to stardom: Since 2019, Kibreab has appeared in several TV series, including “Silicon Valley,” “Pupstruction,” the Star Wars series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and the Netflix show “Sweet Tooth.”
