‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ stars share their Oscar nomination reactions

The stars of “Everything Everywhere All at Once” (“EEAAO”) recently shared their reactions to earning their first Oscar nominations on Tuesday.
Michelle Yeoh told Variety that she was “screaming with joy” alongside producer Jonathan Wang and filmmakers Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan while watching the nomination announcement for the 95th Academy Awards together.
“I’ve been up this morning going, ‘Oh my god, oh my god, what am I going to do?’” Yeoh was quoted as saying. “You never think you would want something like this so much until it’s there, and you don’t know whether you can actually grasp it.”
The 60-year-old star is the first Malaysian to be nominated for a Best Actress Award at the Oscars.
Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis are vying for Best Supporting Actress against Hong Chau of “The Whale,” Angela Bassett of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and Kerry Condon of “The Banshees of Inisherin.”
“We don’t want my love Jamie or Stephanie to be one or the other,” said Yeoh. “Why should they be one or the other when they both deserve to be up there? So when it came out, I was like, ‘Yes!’”
According to Hsu, she had just finished watching their film while on a plane from a shoot in Australia when she got a text from a friend that read: “Holy sh*t.”
She then got the confirmation in their “EEAAO” text thread that was filled with “a lot of tears” and “gratitude.”
“I love every single person who has poured so much of their hearts into this project,” Hsu later told Good Morning America. “I feel like this is a big hug for us. We’re the little scrappy ones in the corner that put together this big insane thing, and I feel like everyone’s really cheering us on, so I feel very honored. I get what that means now.”
When asked if she felt pressured being nominated alongside Curtis, Hsu responded, “No, I’m like, ‘This is just a big party now!’”
Curtis took to Instagram to share “what surprise looks like,” via an image of “the moment of hearing my name, and then the thrill of my friend, Stephanie’s @stephaniehsuofficial name, and the rest of the nominations.”
Ke Huy Quan, who earned a nod for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, said he was jumping and screaming along with his “Everything Everywhere All at Once” family via Zoom as each nomination came in.
Quan told Variety that getting nominated alongside his “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” director Steven Spielberg, who was nominated for Best Director for “The Fabelmans,” made the award season “even more special.”
It could not be better. I love that man with all my heart … having him there and having his movies being nominated and celebrated, too. At a time when he made his most personal film, that is really special.
Quan also wrote in an Instagram post that during the announcement, he was “screaming so loud, I’m sure I’ll lose my voice by the end of the day.”
“This is for sure one of the happiest days of my life,” Quan wrote in the description. “CONGRATULATIONS to the entire #EEAAO family for our 11 nominations. And lastly, CONGRATULATIONS to our matriarch @michelleyeoh_official for her historic nomination.”
This year’s Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 12.
