Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and his wife Nikki Spoelstra are divorcing after seven years of marriage.
What happened: In a joint statement on Nov. 29, Erik, 53, and Nikki, 36, announced that they have made the “difficult yet amicable” decision to formally end their marriage. They did not go into specifics.
“We appreciate everyone’s support as we move to the next stage of our lives and thank you for respecting our family’s privacy,” they said.
About the ex-couple: The pair, who have three children — 5-year-old Santiago, 3-year-old Dante and 1-year-old Ruby — tied the knot in 2016. They reportedly separated in recent months.
Erik, who is Filipino American, is now in his 16th season as Miami Heat coach. He was named best head coach in the NBA in 2022. Nikki, on the other hand, started as a Miami Heat dancer in 2005. She launched her podcast, “The Know with Nikki Spo,” in 2021.
Moving forward: Despite their divorce, the pair said they remain “fully committed to co-parenting our children and continuing to make them our shared priority.” Both were also grateful for their relationship.
After releasing their statement, Nikki revealed in an X post that she “got help for alcohol addiction” in 2020. “Today, I choose joy + gratitude,” she noted.
She has also shared Instagram posts featuring their children. In one, she wrote in the caption, “For anyone going through a hard time…. Take a minute (or a bunch of them) and then DOUBLE DOWN ON YOURSELF.”

If this happened on campus, Stanford should issue a clear public update and specific safety actions.

Agree. People need facts and process, not silence. The school should confirm what is being investigated.

Also important to separate verified details from rumors so this does not spiral online.

The death threat part is extremely serious. Hoping law enforcement and campus security are already involved.

This is where official reporting and support channels need to be visible and easy to access.
