Escalator in China Suddenly Reverses Direction, Throws Everyone Off

Security video from CCTV shows an escalator in a Ningbo shopping mall suddenly speeding up in the wrong direction, causing a human pile-up.

At least five people were injured in the accident and police have launched an investigation to determine what happened.

Last year in July, a woman in Hubei died after an escalator floor-plate underneath her collapsed, and then in August a Shanghai man had to have his leg amputated after it got wedged. Those were two of several escalator accidents that were widely reported last year.

Needless to say, simply riding an escalator in China can be pretty scary.
