BTS’s RM Reveals He Lost Over 30 Pairs of AirPods and Now ARMYs Are Out to Find Them
By Carl Samson
BTS leader and rapper RM believes he is now on his 34th pair of AirPods, presumably after losing his first 33 somewhere across the planet.
The revelation came to light during a recent Q&A with ARMYs, in which one mentioned that they lost a pair.
As seen in a clip of the livestream, RM clapped a few times in response to his fan’s story, saying that they could probably be good friends.
The 25-year-old rapper added that he is now on his 34th pair of AirPods, and whenever he connects to his Bluetooth, he mourns all the ones that came before.
Apple first released the AirPods in September 2016 alongside the iPhone 7 for $159.
Assuming RM — whose real name is Kim Nam-joon — has been purchasing the wireless technology since then for the same price (keep in mind second-generation AirPods and the more recent AirPods Pro), it would mean that he has spent at least $5,250 on his first 33 pairs.
This also suggests that he is losing the AirPods at a rate of 11 pairs a year.
RM’s revelation immediately sent ARMYs into an online frenzy, with many wondering how much money the K-pop star must be making.
BTS became the world’s highest-paid boy band of 2019, earning $57 million pre-tax from June 2018 to June 2019.
How profits are divided among the group’s seven members is unclear, but local reports from 2018 revealed that each one received a share of $8 million after bringing in a total of $88 million.
RM losing nearly three dozen pairs of AirPods probably wouldn’t bother the singer.
Some ARMYs have declared that their search for the 33 missing pairs is officially on.
