With three nods each, A24’s “Beef” and “Past Lives” are leading TV and film nominations, respectively, at the 2023 Gotham Awards.
Announcement: Gotham Film and Media Institute Executive Director Jeffrey Sharp and Deputy Director Kia Brooks announced the list of nominees in a livestream from Cipriani Wall Street in New York on Tuesday. The awarding ceremony will be held at the same venue on Nov. 27.

“Beef” nominations: A24 and Netflix’s “Beef,” created by Lee Sung Jin, took the lead on TV with three nominations: one in the breakthrough series – nnder 40 minutes category and two for outstanding performance in a new series for its two leads, Ali Wong and Steven Yeun.

Trailing “Beef” are “Interview with The Vampire,” “I’m a Virgo,” “Swarm,” “A Small Light,” “The Last of Us,” “The English” and “Dead Ringers,” which all received two nominations each.
Up against “Beef” in the breakthrough series category are “High School,” “I’m a Virgo,” “Rain Dogs” and “Swarm.” Meanwhile, Wong and Yeun are vying for Outstanding Performance against Jacob Anderson (“Interview with the Vampire”), Dominique Fishback (“Swarm”), Jharrel Jerome (“I’m a Virgo”), Natasha Lyonne (“Poker Face”), Bel Powley of (“A Small Light”), Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Chaske Spencer (“The English”) and Rachel Weisz (“Dead Ringers”).
“Past Lives” nominations: “Past Lives,” directed by Celine Song, also received three nominations at the 2023 Gotham Awards. These include best feature, breakthrough director for song and outstanding lead performance for Greta Lee.
Past Lives” is up against “Passages,” “Reality,” “A Thousand and One” and “Showing Up,” also by A24, for Best Feature. Song is competing against Georgia Oakley (“Blue Jean”), Michelle Garza Cervera (“Huesera”), A.V. Rockwell (“A Thousand and One”) and Raven Jackson (“All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt”), another title distributed by A24, for Breakthrough Director.
For outstanding lead, Lee is up against Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (“Origin”), Lily Gladstone (“The Unknown Country”), Franz Rogowski (“Passages”), Babetida Sadjo (“Our Father, The Devil”), Andrew Scott (“All of Us Strangers”), Teyana Taylor (“A Thousand and One”), Jeffrey Wright (“American Fiction”), Michelle Williams (“Showing Up”) and Cailee Spaeny of “Priscilla,” which is also distributed by A24.
A24’s “Everything Everywhere All At Once” won the best feature award at last year’s ceremony. Ke Huy Quan won for outstanding supporting performance.
