A coalition of Asian Americans have joined President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign advisory board.
Called the “Asian Pacific Americans for Trump,” the 26-member group aims to boost Trump’s appeal to Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters ahead of the election in November.

Filipino-American Ohio Mayor and attorney Ron Falconi is one of the board members who has pledged his support for the Republican nominee. The AAPI board consists of elected officials, grassroots leaders and business owners, as reported by Asian Journal
“I am thrilled to be working again with officials from the Trump campaign and the RNC to be a conservative voice in Asian American communities so that we can re-elect the president,” he said, as reported by the Asian Journal.
“Our group only has a short period of time before November comes around, and we should focus on our goals.  We need to fight back against the mainstream media/Democrat message that all APAs are liberals and vote to the left.  Our community is not monolithic, we have a wide variety of views and political opinions.”
The formation of the group comes as the White House continues to deflect criticisms Trump has faced for his early remarks calling COVID-19 the “Chinese virus” and the “Wuhan virus.”
Asian Americans currently comprise 4.7% of the electorate in the US, making them among the fastest-growing demographic of eligible voters, based on a recent Pew Research Center poll.
Courting the AAPI voters as well as other demographics are a priority for any campaign as their votes could turn the tide in key swing states. In the previous election, the majority of the Asian voters went in favor of Hillary Clinton with a 65-27 margin over Trump
“Asian Pacific Americans stand with President Trump to defend freedom, strengthen the American Dream and create a prosperous future with abundant opportunities for generations to come,” the group proclaimed on their website. “Asian Pacific Americans cherish the United States as our precious homeland and we will ensure President Trump’s victory in November so our communities and families can continue to thrive under ‘Promises Made, Promises Kept’ for FOUR MORE YEARS!”
One of the group’s co-chairs is Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, who has earlier received an endorsement from Trump as he seeks reelection for his position.
