Two men, identified as Fong Lee and Ying Moua, were arrested at the Portland Amtrak station on Dec. 7 after authorities discovered they were carrying a total of $70,000 in cash and several child porn photos and videos.
Both Lee and Moua are charged with money laundering, according to KOIN 6. The former is also being charged with encouraging sexual abuse after being caught with more than 100 child porn videos.
The arrest was made by the drug-enforcement unit High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program (HIDTA) and Homeland Security Investigations, who were at the Portland Amtrak station. Officials accompanied by drug-sniffing canines randomly and consensually approached people walking through the station and performed contraband check on their luggage.
Moua reportedly allowed authorities to check his luggage where they found vacuum-sealed $35,000 in cash inside his bag. The K9 unit also said that it detected presence of narcotics in his luggage.
According to court documents, he admitted that he got the money from selling cannabis and planned to travel to California to buy marijuana using the money he was caught with, and travel back to Minnesota.
Moua’s companion and cousin, Lee, was also found with $35,000 inside his bag. Investigators then discovered several external hard drives and digital storage devices that contained hundreds of child porn videos, which he obtained through a file sharing program.
Court documents also detailed that Lee viewed photos or videos of children as young as 5, and that, in the past, he had a sexual relationship with a minor who was 12 when he was 21 years old. The abuse allegedly happened in California.
Both Lee and Moua are still being held by the authorities and scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for their arraignment.
