Continuing celebrations for Netflix’s Geeked Week, the streaming giant released a first look at “Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead,” an upcoming zombie horror comedy film based on the popular Japanese manga series of the same name.
The upcoming film is centered around Akira’s – played by the up-and-coming actor Eiji Akaso – dull and corporate-exploited life in Japan. When he wakes up one day to see his evil boss chomping down on another coworker, Akira becomes determined to survive. In order to do so, he creates and pursues his “zombie apocalypse bucket list,” which contains the 100 things he hopes to achieve before succumbing to the apocalypse.
In addition to Eiji Akaso, the cast also stars the former Japanese pop band Nogizaka 46 member Mai Shiraishi and Shuntaro Yanagi. Shiraishi is set to play “the intellectual heroine Shizuka, who always fights with a cool head,” reports The Wrap.
Written by Haro Aso and illustrated by Kotaro Takata, the original manga series became a huge success upon its release in 2018. For fans looking for the original manga outside of Japan, they can now be found at Viz Media, which has “licensed the series for an official release,” reports Comicbook.
Despite previous anime adaptations by Netflix having left fans with mixed reactions, some live-action adaptations have received glowing reviews, with Haro’s “Alice in Borderland” being the most recent case.
Produced and developed by ROBOT, Plus One Entertainment and Akira Morii, Yusuke Ishida is expected to direct the film with a screenplay by Tatsuro Mishima.
Although no release date has been announced, Netflix has released a first look image of the film.
